Who is Gnomon Watches exactly?

Gnomon Watches is a shop in Singapore that has sold independent and microbrand watches since 2007. That is the whole description, and it is also the whole point: close to twenty years of doing one thing, from one place, for the same kind of person.

A shop, run by collectors

We stock the houses we would wear ourselves. That reads like a slogan until you look at the shelf: Squale, Steinhart, Yema, Hitori, Marathon, Mido, Dievas, Damasko, Ball, Oris, Orient Star and the rest of the twenty-two houses we carry are small workshops making watches on their own terms, not a catalogue assembled to cover every price point. A catalogue is easy. A shelf you would buy from yourself is not, and it takes a long time to build one that other people trust.

What we have learned about the people who buy them

The person who buys a microbrand watch has usually already done the reading. They know the movement, they know the case dimensions, and what they want from us is not a sales pitch but a straight answer to the one question the spec sheet cannot settle: how does it wear. So that is what we try to give, in the product pages, in the journal, and in reply to the emails we get about lug width and strap choices. The conversation continues after checkout, and the workshop answers it.

Authorised, authentic, and answerable

Every watch we sell is genuine and sold as an authorised dealer, which means the full manufacturer warranty comes with it. Every piece is checked on a timegrapher before it leaves, and every case back is opened at least once by a person. In-stock watches ship within three working days, worldwide, and the aftercare outlasts the sale: a service is quoted before any work starts, and nothing proceeds without your agreement.

Why the journal exists

The journal is where we write down the things we would say across the counter if you were standing at it — notes on the movements, the materials and the decisions behind them, and visits to the workshops that make the watches we carry. It is not a news feed and it will never be long. It is the part of the shop that explains why the shelf looks the way it does.
